Understanding CAT Roles

Why are Roles Important? 

CourseLeaf CAT uses role-based security to ensure that users have access only to the tools and functions necessary for their job responsibilities. 

This approach helps: 

• Protect the integrity of the College Catalog. 

• Ensure content is reviewed before publication. 

• Maintain consistent workflows. 

• Clearly define responsibilities throughout the catalog publishing process. 

Not every user will have access to every feature within CAT. 

Standard CAT Roles 

Editor 

Editors are responsible for creating and updating catalog content. 

Typical responsibilities include: 

• Editing assigned catalog pages 

• Updating text, links, images, and documents 

• Formatting content 

• Previewing changes 

• Saving drafts 

• Submitting pages into workflow 

Editors cannot publish content unless they have been assigned additional permissions. 

Approver 

Approvers provide the official approval required before catalog content can be published. 

Typical responsibilities include: 

• Reviewing final content 

• Approving or rejecting workflow submissions 

• Ensuring compliance with college policies 

• Confirming content is ready for publication 

Approval signifies that the content is accurate and authorized for publication. 

Administrator 

Administrators manage the CAT system and support users across the institution. 

Typical responsibilities include: 

• Publishing approved changes 

• Managing publication timing 

• Verifying successful publication 

• Confirming changes appear correctly on the public catalog 

• Managing user accounts and permissions 

• Configuring workflows 

• Maintaining catalog structure 

• Managing templates and shared content 

• Configuring publishing settings 

• Troubleshooting system issues 

• Supporting annual catalog production 

• Coordinating with CourseLeaf Support on system enhancements and upgrades 

Administrators have the highest level of access within CAT.
