Body
CourseLeaf CIM uses terminology related to curriculum development, proposals, and approval workflows. Use this article as a quick reference when working in CIM Courses or CIM Programs.
At Rest
Indicates that a course or program is not currently in workflow.
When a curriculum record is at rest, there is no active proposal moving through the approval process.
CIM
Curriculum Inventory Management (CIM) is the CourseLeaf system used to create, modify, review, and approve course and program curriculum.
Course or Program Record
The CIM record containing the approved curriculum information for a course or program.
When a proposal is in progress, the record may also display proposed changes and workflow information.
Proposal
A request to create, modify, or inactivate curriculum.
A proposal may be used to:
Proposed changes are not considered approved curriculum until the proposal completes the required approval process.
Faculty Author
The person who initiates a curriculum proposal.
The faculty author enters the proposed curriculum information and submits the completed proposal into workflow.
Edit / Propose Changes
The action used to begin proposing changes to an existing course or program.
Selecting Edit opens the curriculum form and allows an authorized user to make proposed changes to the existing record.
Inactivate
The action used to propose that an existing course or program no longer be active.
Inactivation is a proposal and must complete the required curriculum approval workflow.
Save Changes
Saves the information entered into a proposal without submitting it into workflow.
Use Save Changes when you need to leave the proposal and return to complete it later.
Important: Saving a proposal does not submit it for approval.
Start Workflow
Submits a completed proposal into the formal curriculum approval process.
Once Start Workflow is selected, CIM routes the proposal through the required review and approval steps.
Workflow
The electronic approval path a proposal follows after it is submitted.
A workflow may contain multiple review and approval steps based on the type of curriculum proposal.
Workflow Step
An individual review or approval point within a proposal's workflow.
A workflow step may represent an individual, department, committee, or other reviewing body.
The current workflow step indicates where the proposal is currently located in the approval process.
Approve
Moves a proposal forward to the next required workflow step.
Approving a proposal at one step does not necessarily mean the proposal is fully approved. Additional approvals may still be required.
Roll Back
Returns a proposal to an earlier workflow step when revisions or additional information are needed.
A rollback does not delete or reject the proposal. Once the necessary changes are made, the proposal can continue through workflow.
In Workflow
Indicates that a proposal has been submitted and is currently moving through the curriculum approval process.
While a proposal is in workflow, certain actions or additional changes to the curriculum record may be restricted.
Red/Green Markup
CIM uses visual markup to identify differences between existing and proposed curriculum.
This allows reviewers to quickly identify what is changing within a proposal.
Ecosystem
A visual representation of the relationships between a course or program and other curriculum records.
The CIM Ecosystem can help identify courses, programs, and other curriculum relationships that may be affected by a proposed change.
CourseLeaf Dashboard
The main CourseLeaf landing page used to access CourseLeaf applications.
From the Dashboard, users can select Courses to access CIM Courses or Programs to access CIM Programs.
